Alpha Gams love giving back in the community where they are placed! Big or small, we know we can make a difference in our world. Click here to learn more about Alpha Gam’s community service efforts.
Our annual Grilled Cheese with AGDs event raises money for Meals on Wheels Atlanta. Students stop by our house for a grilled cheese, a cup of soup and a ton of fun. We also aim to educate members of the Georgia Tech community on hunger in our local community, and how each person can get involved in ending hunger. This year our chapter raised $11,388, in support of the Atlanta Community Food Bank!
Alpha Grabba Donut is an annual event where sisters create individual fundraising pages to sell Krispy Kreme donuts to raise money for Fighting Hunger organization. It is a one day sale with preordering available for fellow Tech students. This year Alpha Grabba Donut raised $3.715! 100% of the proceeds went to Meals on Wheels Atlanta.
In the spring, our chapter partners with Georgia Tech Lambda Chi Alpha for our annual Gam Lam Pickle Slam. Pickle Slam is a campus-wide Pickleball tournament which raises money for Meals on Wheels Atlanta. Participants compete in teams and can buy snacks and drinks, with all of those proceeds going to Meals on Wheels Atlanta as well. In 2025, we raised over $2000!
Week of Service is a week when all Alpha Gamma Deltas across the nation engage in various community service opportunities for a full week. This year, our chapter had a week-long hygiene drive for Yellow Jackets Against Poverty, packed creative calm kits for residents at Women's Resource Center to End Domestic Violence, hosted a mixer with Miracle to make dog toys to donate to Furkids, volunteered at the Atlanta Humane Society, packed meal boxes at Meals on Wheels Atlanta, processed donations at Atlanta Mission, and packaged meals with our families during GT’s Spring Family Weekend.
As a chapter we also support CPC’s philanthropic focus, Circle of Sisterhood. Circle of Sisterhood is an international foundation that makes efforts to reduce barriers to girls’ education globally. Many Alpha Gam’s are Circle of Sisterhood delegates and help execute events like the Red Rose Project in collaboration with the Interfraternity Council, and Holiday Marketplace, an annual vendor fair that showcases local-female small businesses. “To welcome the opportunity of contributing to the world’s work in the community where I am placed because of the joy of service thereby bestowed and the talent of leadership multiplied”
These words from Alpha Gamma Delta’s Purpose have echoed through chapter rooms for more than a century uniting all sisters in what it means to be an Alpha Gam. But they’re a bit verbose, no? Even the word “philanthropy” itself can leave room for doubt.
Google defines philanthropy as “the desire to promote the welfare of others, expressed especially by the generous donation of money to good causes,” and the focus of Alpha Gam’s philanthropic efforts is fighting hunger. Annually, our chapter spreads awareness and raises over $15,000 for this cause through fun events such as our Grilled Cheese with AGDs and Alpha Grabba Donut fundraisers. The money raised goes directly towards stamping out hunger in the Atlanta area via partnerships with Meals on Wheels Atlanta and the Atlanta Community Foodbank.
But here at the Gamma Phi chapter, we strive to find meaning in philanthropy beyond fundraising; we seek out that “joy of service.” Our members complete more than 3,000 hours of hands-on volunteering on the Georgia Tech campus and beyond each year in projects related both to fighting hunger and to their individual passions. Our sisters serve in leadership roles for campus orgs like Engineers Without Borders and Miracle, work as volunteer interns at The Latin American Association, and even serve on the Collegiate Panhellenic Council executive board as their Vice President of Philanthropy.
As Alpha Gam’s Vice President of Philanthropy, it is my pleasure and honor to share in a sisterhood so passionate about giving back to our community. I look forward to spontaneously planting trees on Saturday mornings, operating four griddles at once to make so much grilled cheese, and truly finding joy in service with my sisters. Through this all, I hope to learn even more than I share about the talent of leadership.
Loyally,
Grace Kopkas
